The DA's delivered in Cape Town - De Lille

Mayoral candidate says metro outstripping others on satisfaction with service delivery

The DA's delivery in Cape Town is making a difference

A TNS research survey released this past week has found that the level of satisfaction with service delivery in Cape Town exceeds that in any other metro. The survey reflects the DA's delivery record in Cape Town which is also the most impressive of any metro, on the key deliverables (see here).

The combination of these two facts constitutes further evidence that, where the DA governs, it delivers a better life for all. Given the chance, the DA can make that same difference elsewhere.

The TNS survey was conducted in November 2010 and polled 2 000 people across the country's main metropolitan areas. Its key findings were as follows:

Satisfied with delivery Unsatisfied Unsure
Cape Town 57% 39% 4%
Mangaung 52% 48% 0%
Tshwane 44% 50% 6%
Johannesburg 43% 51% 6%
Ekhurleni 41% 48% 11%
eThekwini 35% 57% 8%
N. Mandela 29% 65% 5%

39% is the lowest figure by almost 10%, but it is not good enough and the DA will continue to strive to ensure that it delivers better services, more efficiently to all the people of Cape Town. That said, the difference between Cape Town and the other metros is marked and can be attributed in part to the DA's excellent service delivery record.

According to the National Department of Cooperative Government's 2010 ‘Universal Household Access to Basic Services Report' (uHabs) Cape Town is by far the most proficient at providing access to basic services such as electricity, water, refuse removal and sanitation to its citizens:

Water: Cape Town - 100% - first among all metros

Refuse: Cape Town - 98% - first among all metros

Electricity: Cape Town - 95% - first among all metros

Universal Access: Cape Town - 91% - first among all metros

Sanitation: Cape Town - 94% - tied first with Johannesburg

The combination of these two things - the TNS survey and the national government's report - is no coincidence. It is proof that the attitude of citizens towards the government they elected is grounded in the performance of that government.

In both the City and the Province the DA has a lot to do and we will not rest until we have delivered the highest quality services to all citizens. This is the challenge we face and it will be the primary focus of my tenure as mayor, if elected. Only once we have secured the basic fundamentals every citizen has a right to, can we start to properly create opportunities and encourage growth.

But it is clear that in the City of Cape Town the DA has made massive strides in the right direction over the past five years and, with the support of all the people of Cape Town, we can continue to make a great City even greater. And, outside of Cape Town, wherever the opportunity to govern is extended to us, we can deliver the same difference.

With your support, we can bring clean government, service delivery and infrastructure that works to your municipality too.
