We had nothing to do with Facebook post on Hitler and the Jews - ANC WCape

Party says Rene Smit is a volunteer, post was done purely in her personal capacity

ANC had nothing to do with a Facebook post

The DA is quick to make petty politics of its fabricated deceits and strongly come out in support of Israel, but weak on the issue of the killing of a disproportional number of Palestinian babies and women in the Gaza Strip.

This is very evident in the latest exaggerated ‘condemnation' of a social media post. The ANC says it is glad the DA agrees that the post is inappropriate, but the DA should not read too much into it. The facts are:

A.  René Smit is not an employee, ‘official' or ‘manager' of the ANC as is claimed by the DA in an erroneous statement today. She is not even an ANC member, but a supporter that voluntarily do a lot of humanitarian work;

B.  The post was not on any ANC Western Cape platform or account;

C. The post was done in her personal capacity on her own Facebook profile over the weekend - in her own time;

D. The post did not originate with her, but was a repost from a different source;

E.  If anybody's opinion on the matter was published, it is her own;

F.  The post was remorsefully removed by her as soon as readers drew her attention to its objectionable content. Ms Smit has apologised for the post.

The ANC had nothing to do with that post. It does not support it. The post is not remotely representative of the ANC's known stance on the conflict in Palestine and Israel as is known through it policy and advanced in a statement last week by ANC deputy secretary general Jessie Duarte.
