We have taken a decision to introspect - ANC Gauteng

Party says it notes and remains concerned that they did not receive more than 50% in some municipalities in province

ANC GAUTENG TO REFLECT ON OUTCOMES OF 2016 LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTION

Johannesburg, 06 August 2016

ANC in Gauteng thanks all the people who went out to exercise their democratic right to vote in the 2016 Local Government Elections. We remain humbled by the support that we received in these elections and we do not take the support for granted.

Whilst the ANC received significant support, we however note and remain concerned that we did not receive more than 50% in some of the municipalities. As the ANC in Gauteng, we have taken a decision to introspect and reflect on the issues that many of our voters continue to raise with us. We will not shy away from some weaknesses that have been identified, but will engage communities throughout the province to find speedy and meaningful solutions.

In order to ensure that we continue to implement our programme of radical socio-economic transformation, we have started a process of negotiating with other political parties in order to form governments where we do not have a majority.

We commend the IEC, state security agencies and the voters for ensuring that we held successful, peaceful, free and fair elections. This has been an encouraging and clear sign that our democracy works.

We thank our election volunteers and our veterans who came in their numbers to show support and confidence in the ANC in Gauteng.

Again, we take this opportunity to thank our people for their unwavering support in the elections. We do not take any of the support and confidence given to us by the people of our province for granted.
