Wrong for Tlokwe mayor to drive drunk - Chris Hattingh

DA NWest leader to request Speaker to investigate Kgotso Khumalo's conduct

DA to request Speaker's investigation into Tlokwe Mayor's drunk driving

The Mayor of Tlokwe, Kgotso Khumalo, has been caught driving drunk in Cape Town over the weekend. It is completely inappropriate for the mayor to drive drunk (see Beeld report).

This incident again confirms that Mr Khumalo is not an appropriate individual to act as Mayor of Tlokwe.

We will submit a request to the Speaker's office in Tlokwe to ask that the Mayor be investigated by the Tlokwe council and that the disciplinary steps are taken against the mayor.

But there are also other concerns. The mayor must explain what he was doing in Cape Town in the first place. And indeed, if he was there to attend to Jazz Festival, whether he was paying for it out of his own pocket as a personal holiday trip. We can only hope that municipal funds were not being used to fund the mayor's getaway to the Jazz Festival.

We must make sure that all municipal funds are spent to deliver services to the people and make life better for Tlokwe's residents. In any event, the mayor has shown that he is not the right person to take the municipality forward.

We look forward to the Speaker's investigation to get to the bottom of what happened and whether any council funds are involved.
