YouTube bans UFS initiation video - AfriForum

Cornelius Jansen van Rensburg says complaint to be laid with SAHRC

Villa Bravado video banned on YouTube

AfriForum today said in a statement that the revolting video of initiation at the Villa Bravado men's residence at the University of the Free State has been removed from the website YouTube. According to Cornelius Jansen van Rensburg, AfriForum spokesperson, the removal is an indication of the serious light in which YouTube views this racial incident, since the Reitz video is still available on YouTube.

The video shows four white students having water thrown at them, being humiliated and being dragged across the floor while a group of black students are shouting and kicking at them. All South Africans need to be aware of the fact that racism is not only limited to one community.

Since it is in the interest of the broad public to expose racism, AfriForum has made the video available on www.stube.co.za

AfriForum will submit a complaint to the Human Rights Commission today and will request an inquiry into the reasons for the incident, especially in light of the fact that initiation practices were banned on the campus last year.

AfriForum shares the view that initiation practices violate human dignity. "Such actions cannot be condoned in a country that is trying to promote the principles of ubuntu," Jansen van Rensburg said.
