Zuma not involved in SABC appointments - Presidency

Mac Maharaj says president's name shouldn't have been dragged into COO appointment controversy

President Zuma is not involved in SABC recruitment processes

31 Jan 2012

The Presidency is concerned about media reports linking the President to the recruitment of a Chief Operations Officer for the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

The President is not involved in the recruitment process and any internal process of the public broadcaster. It is regrettable that his name has been dragged into this matter in this manner.

The Minister of Communications, Ms Dina Pule, is handling this matter on behalf of government and has expressed the views of the executive. The Presidency has no role in the matter.

Statement issued by Mac Maharaj, The Presidency, January 31 2012
