Zweli Mkhize SA's most popular premier - ANC KZN

Party says poll found premier enjoys 73% approval rating as opposed to Helen Zille's 61%

ANC KZN PROUD OF PREMIER MKHIZE'S PERFORMANCE

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal is proud that the provincial government continues to excel in service delivery, something that has made it even exemplary to other provinces.

In the past few years, the provincial government led by our Provincial Chairperson Dr Zweli Mkhize has developed an image of a clean and hardworking government which is in line with our movement's objectives. Comrade Mkhize's clear vision has not gone unnoticed as the Afrobarometer survey co-ordinated by Idasa unsurprisingly saw him getting the highest approval rating in the country.

The research measured the approval ratings of nine premiers and premier Mkhize had the highest approval rating at 73 percent followed by Free State at 72 percent while Western Cape's Helen Zille, scored a merely 61 percent.

The results of this important survey are a clear indication that the KwaZulu-Natal ANC-led government takes issues of service delivery seriously and is implementing the programmes of the ANC properly.

Importantly, Mkhize and his cabinet have put in place measures to root out corruption, an aspect which has been cited in this survey.  This province hosted the first ever Integrity Leadership Conference last year, as part of efforts aimed at promoting integrity within government departments.  The focus is on individual consciences as opposed to relying on legislative and regulatory prescripts in the fight against corruption and maladministration. Indeed, we say "I do right -even when nobody is watching".

We are happy that under comrade Mkhize's steward leadership, our province has implemented measures to ensure that KwaZulu-Natal does not fall into financial doldrums. Since the beginning of his term of office, Mkhize has ensured that KwaZulu-Natal pays an overdraft of R3 billion.

It is worth mentioning that KwaZulu-Natal was recently praised by the Auditor General, Terrence Nombembe, for major improvements in managing public funds. KZN was one of five legislatures in the country to be given a clean audit for the 2010/2011 financial year.

We congratulate Cde Mkhize and his cabinet for achieving this major milestone.  The ANC will continue to deploy leaders who understand that they represent the will of the people. We urge the community to support government in changing the imbalances of the past. As the ANC we acknowledge the negative impact of triple challenges of poverty, inequality and unemployment in our society hence we urge the community to work with the government to address the imbalances of the past.
