NUMSA STATEMENT ON RACIST OFFENSIVE AGAINST ESKOM CEO!

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) notes the concerted efforts by certain whites' racist and liberal elements within the ESKOM Board who are hell-bent on destroying the reputation of its CEO Jacob Maroga for their own national and class interests.

These public and systematic attacks directed towards the CEO feeds into the hands of a broader political agenda advanced by the DA for state-owned entities to be privatized or transferred to the evil hands of a few in the market. The ongoing shenanigans at ESKOM are partly a classic reflection of the failures by the National Liberation Movement and the ANC Alliance led government into qualitatively and quantitatively dealing with ‘colonialism of a special type' within our ranks and broader society.

Numsa strongly believes that there is well oiled offensive waged by Whites Chauvinists and few co-opted parasitic Black Chauvinists leaders to project Africans as incompetent, corrupt and uneducated, and not fit in occupying key positions of authority and influence. These reactionary efforts should be defeated by all of us without undermining the core principles of our revolutionary movement of building a non-racial and non-sexist and democratic society.

Our defense of CEO Maroga are based on principles as opposed to the neoliberal  policies that are being pursued by ESKOM and are detrimental to the lives of the poor as a result of high tariffs and commodification of electricity.

The attacks are nothing else, but part of a ploy by white capital in cahoots with an emerging BEE capitalist stratum to capture ESKOM and other state-owned entities for their narrow and selfish class interests.
