ANC must act on accused Yeoville councillor – Jack Bloom

DA says councillor allegedly deceived people by promising them houses and taking their money

ANC must act on accused Yeoville councillor

9 September 2016

It has been reported today that residents have made serious allegations against Ms Martha Mazibuko, the new ANC Councillor for Ward 67 (Yeoville).

It is alleged that she took money from Mr Willie du Plessis and Ms Veronica Mofokeng after promising them upmarket houses owned by the Johannesburg municipality between 2010 and 2012 when she worked in the council's housing department.

There are others who also reportedly say they were deceived by Mazibuko.

Mr du Plessis has opened a case against Mazibuko, alleging that he paid her R37 000, but all the houses he was shown already had people occupying them.

Ms MofoKeng says that she paid Mazibuko R60 000 for a house in Houghton, but found that people were already living there.

The law must take its course in this matter, but the ANC should also do a speedy investigation and make the findings public.

This case will show whether the ANC is serious about taking action against a lack of integrity in its public representatives.
