DA welcomes revocation of Rashied Staggie's parole

James Selfe says action hopefully illustrates a commitment by the department to enforce parole conditions without fear or favour

DA welcomes Staggie re-arrest

The DA welcomes the Department of Correctional Services' decision today to revoke former gang leader, Rashied Staggie's, parole.

Mr Staggies's re-arrest hopefully illustrates a commitment by the department to enforce parole conditions without fear or favour, and will send a distinct message to other parolees and potential re-offenders.

Reports suggest that Mr Staggies' parole was revoked due to his association with a former gangster which is a clear parole violation.

The DA will closely monitor the situation, and will seek a report when the Portfolio Committee on Correctional Services next meets.

We look forward to the Case Management Committee and the Correctional Supervision and Parole Board's decision, and trust that every possible measure will be taken to ensure that justice prevails.

Statement issued by James Selfe MP, DA Shadow Minister of Correctional Services, December 5 2013
