DASO largest party on Tuks SRC

Thorne Godhino says organisation has caucus of five, as well as three out of five executive positions

Victory for the DA Students' Organisation at the University of Pretoria

24 October 2013

The DA Students' Organisation (DASO) at the University of Pretoria has been declared the largest party on the Student Representative Council (SRC) at the university, with a caucus of five members and the three out of five executive positions.

DASO Tuks candidate Taymoon Altamash was elected Deputy President of the SRC, James Lotter is the Deputy Secretary and Arno Burger is the newly-elected Treasurer.

This election result is indicative of the DA's commitment to fighting for inclusive student governance structures that deliver for all. Voters have increased their support for DASO following DA SRC Presidents Mthokozisi Nkosi and Jordan Griffiths' effort to fight for fairer financial aid and expanded services on campus.

DASO SRC members at the University of Pretoria have spent over R400 000 on student services, including an expanded aid fund for indigent students, a textbook library and funding scheme and bus routes to the inner-city.

The new DASO Tuks caucus, chaired by Kim Ngobeni, believes in an inclusive University of Pretoria, one which promotes the establishment of a LGBTI officer at the University, creates an expanded internship and student jobs programme, and fights financial exclusion.

Statement issued by Thorne Godhino, DA Youth Federal Media and Publicity Chair, October 24 2013
