Massive attempted voter fraud in Nongoma - IFP

Albert Mncwango says hundreds of outsiders registered as voters for by-election

IFP EXPOSES MASSIVE VOTER FRAUD IN NONGOMA

The IFP has uncovered massive fraud in the run-up to a hotly contested by-election in Ward 12, in Nongoma, KwaZulu Natal, and the Party's urgent application to have 525 fraudulently registered voters scrapped from the voting roll has been accepted and effected.

The IEC has announced that it will launch an internal investigation into the matter.

"With the ANC and NFP relationship now at a dead end, and the IFP winning almost all its by-elections in the Province, including those wards that were formally controlled by the alliance, the IFP's opposition is running scared. Desperate to cling to power, they have resorted to fraudulently registering voters in a desperate bid to win the upcoming by-election in Nongoma," said Mr Albert Mncwango, IFP MP from Nongoma.

Mr Mncwango said that the IEC ruling has vindicated the IFP's concerns that massive voter fraud is part and parcel of the ANC/NFP politics in KwaZulu Natal today.

"We became extremely concerned when we received reports that students, who do not reside in Ward 12, were registered and bribed to vote for our opponents. Some of the voters who were registered actually reside in Pongola, which is hundreds of kilometers away," said Mncwango.

Mncwango said that the IFP was sick and tired of voter fraud and welcomed the IEC investigation.

"We welcome the internal investigation to be launched by the IEC. It is clear that these fraudsters had help from inside the IEC to obtain an IEC scanner and therefore a thorough investigation must be conducted so that all those involved in this scam can face the full force of the law. The matter now also rests with the SAPS and, according to our electoral act, the political party or parties involved must also face criminal investigation. Our political opponents must be taught the lesson that political victory can only be obtained democratically through the ballot box, and not through shenanigans," concluded Mncwango.
