Mido Macia: Convictions welcome - POPCRU

Union says it is against any form of police brutality

POPCRU WELCOMES COURT DECISION ON MIDO MACIA MURDER TRIAL

25 August 2015

The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) welcomes the decision by the North Gauteng High Court on the eight former policemen who were found guilty for the murder of Mozambican national Mido Macia.

We are of the view that such unwarranted and unfortunate acts committed by these former police officers only serve to erode the public’s trust in the service, and serves as an embarrassment to the many police officers who remain committed to serving our communities.

We are absolutely against any form of police brutality and will not condone any such deeds which seek to undermine our efforts in nurturing good working relations with our communities.

We appeal to members of the community to foster good working relations with the police in ridding our society of all criminal elements who continue to kill police officers, and those undermining their oaths to serve the public with dignity and integrity.
