NUMSA salutes bravery and militancy of ANCYL

Union fully supports demands put forward by the League

NUMSA SALUTES THE BRAVERY AND MILITANCY OF ANCYL!

27 October 2011

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) salutes the fighting working class youth led by the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) that has decided to swamp the streets of our country to demand economic freedom, decent jobs, free and quality public education and fight against corruption.

We fully support the demands put forward by the ANYL. These demands are consistent with our numerous Congress resolutions and strategic objectives of the Freedom Charter. We salute the bravery of the youth for heeding the ANCYL call amidst scandalous innuendos, ageism rhetoric and political blackmail by some leaders within our broad liberation movement.

This action by the ANCYL to fight against the crisis of poverty, unemployment and deepening inequalities faced by the workers and the poor is necessary to reverse this ugly triple crisis. This action fully demonstrates that with mass mobilization and organizational power infused with correct revolutionary theory, the youth and workers, can liberate themselves from capitalist oppression and barbarity.

This action is in line with the ANC's Strategy and Tactics adopted in Morogoro, Tanzania, which resolved as follows "In our country - more than in any other part of the oppressed world - it is inconceivable for liberation to have meaning without a return of the wealth of the land to the people as a whole. It is therefore a fundamental feature of our strategy that victory must embrace more than formal political democracy. To allow the existing economic forces to retain their interests intact is to feed the root of racial supremacy and does not represent even the shadow of liberation".

NUMSA salutes all the youths and progressive organizations in the United State, Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia who, now joined by our own ANCYL are fighting the brutalities of the global capitalist system in crisis.
