Xenophobia: ANC KZN backs Zulu King's call for peace and unity

Party says it has developed a program that seeks to lead the integration of foreign nationals

ANC CALLS FOR REINTEGRATION OF FOREIGN NATIONALS AND DIALOGUES IN COMMUNITIES

21 April 2015

The call for peace made by the Zulu Monarch at the Moses Mabhida Stadium yesterday should be supported through visible actions in our society.

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal fully throws its weight behind the King's call for peace and unity.

ANC Provincial Secretary Cde Sihle Zikalala has expressed his joy at the manner in which the call for peace by the King was welcomed. "The sense one got after the address by uBayede was that people really heeded the call and were ready to work towards making sure that everyone is safe in our country irrespective of their nationality as long as they are within our borders", Cde Zikalala said.

Now that the King together with government have cleared the air, we must move towards making sure that communities and all other relevant stakeholders take part in the integration of foreign nationals and dialogues encouraging people to hold hands as Africans and work towards building a solid and a developed Africa.

The ANC has developed a program that seeks to lead the integration of foreign nationals. We will also be holding community meetings with various stakeholders. Cde Zikalala also called on all Councillors, leaders of civil organizations and churches to also take part in this program.

As we commend our government for intervening swiftly in quelling this violence against foreign nationals, we are also encouraged by the good work done by the police who have so far arrested more than 300 people since the outbreak of xenophobic attacks.

We encourage communities to continue working with the police in making sure that all those who were leading in a variety of attacks against foreign nationals are prosecuted.
