LATEST CONFIRMED CASES OF COVID-19 IN SOUTH AFRICA (20 JUNE 2021)

STATEMENT

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), a division of the National Health Laboratory Service, reports that 13,155 new COVID-19 cases have been identified in South Africa in the past 24 hours, representing a 23.7% positivity rate. The total number of laboratory-confirmed cases now stands at 1,823,319. A further 112 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 58,702 to date. 12 549 484 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors as per the table below. 

PROVINCIAL BREAKDOWN

The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (66%), followed by Western Cape (9%).

North West accounted for 6%; KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga each accounted for 4%; Eastern Cape, Free State and Limpopo each accounted for 3%; and Northern Cape accounted for 2% of today’s cases.

The cumulative number of cases by province is shown below:

HOSPITAL ADMISSIONS

A further 611 hospital admissions have been reported in the past 24 hours.

STATEMENT

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), a division of the National Health Laboratory Service, reports that 13,575 new COVID-19 cases have been identified in South Africa in the past 24 hours, representing a 23.2% positivity rate. The 7-day moving average daily number of cases has increased. The total number of laboratory-confirmed cases now stands at 1,810,164. A further 149 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 58,590. For more detailed information, visit the GIS Dashboard.

12,493,891 tests have been conducted to date in both public and private sectors as per the table below.

PROVINCIAL BREAKDOWN

The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (62%), followed by Western Cape (11%).

North West accounted for 6%; Free State, KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga each accounted for 4%; Eastern Cape and Limpopo each accounted for 3%; and Northern Cape accounted for 2% of today’s cases.

STATEMENT

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), a division of the National Health Laboratory Service, reports that 10,510 new COVID-19 cases have been identified in South Africa in the past 24 hours, representing a 20.5% positivity rate. The total number of laboratory-confirmed cases now stands at 1,796,589. A further 118 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 58,441.  For more detailed information, visit the GIS Dashboard.

12,435,256 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors as per the table below:

PROVINCIAL BREAKDOWN

The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (66%), followed by Western Cape (8%). KwaZulu-Natal and North West each accounted for 5%; Free State accounted for 4%; Eastern Cape, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and Northern Cape each accounted for 3% of today’s cases.

The number of daily new cases for Eastern Cape, Limpopo, and KwaZulu-Natal have increased from yesterday while new case numbers decreased in the other provinces.

An increase of 1,510 hospital admissions have been reported in the past 24 hours.
