Progress in Tshwane labour relations welcomed – Multi-Party Coalition

City and the Unions have agreed to protect the integrity of the talks by allowing CCMA to communicate on their collective behalf

Coalition Oversight Group pleased by progress in Tshwane labour relations

8 November 2023

Last night the governing multi-party coalition in the City of Tshwane held a Coalition Oversight Group (COG) meeting, attended by leaders of political parties, to receive a progress report in terms of the labour relations in the municipality.

The feedback received was that CCMA facilitated talks are underway between the City of Tshwane and representatives of the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) and the Independent Municipal and Allied Trade Union (IMATU).

The City and the Unions have agreed to protect the integrity of the talks by allowing the CCMA to communicate on their collective behalf and, as such, we will not ventilate these matters as a multi-party coalition.

There are two very important issues at stake for the City, and the Coalition: labour stability, and the financial sustainability of the municipality. The CCMA engagements are a positive step in this regard.
