Simelane ruling victory for the judiciary - Koos van der Merwe

IFP MP says SCA judgment shows that no-one is above the law

SIMELANE RULING: A GREAT VICTORY FOR THE JUDICIARY!

The IFP has praised the Supreme Court of Appeal for applying the Law without fear, favour or prejudice, in its ruling today, that found Menzi Simelane's appointment by President Jacob Zuma as the director of public prosecutions at the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), as invalid.

"The significance of this judgement is that it is proof that our Judiciary is independent, that it is brave and that it fulfills its role as South Africa's watchdog effectively and that it enforces the Constitutional rights of all the citizens of this land. The ruling is indeed a great victory for our Constitutional democracy," said Koos van der Merwe MP, the IFP's Chief Whip and spokesperson on Justice.

Van der Merwe said that ruling affirmed the Constitution's supremacy, and that no single decision or a single individual is above the Law. "The ANC must take note that their immoral and unconstitutional decisions will never stand, because today's decision confirmed that nobody, not even President Zuma himself, is above the Law," concluded van der Merwe.
