Who made Richard Mdluli head of crime intelligence? - DA

Kate Lorimer asks how a cop suspected of murder could get such a high post

CRIME HOTSPOT  + CROOKED COPS : "JOIN THE DOTS " SAYS DA

If anybody is wondering why half the country's crime occurs in Gauteng , perhaps the answer can be found in the case of a warrant of arrest being issued for Crime Intelligence head, Richard Mdluli, on a murder charge and the allegation that his subordinates have covered for him for years. This and his possible involvement with alleged criminal Radovan Krejcir, raises further vital questions:

  • Who else was involved in this cover up?
  • Have they been suspended pending an investigation?
  • How many more cops other than those already implicated, are involved?
  • Who decided Mdluli should be  promoted to head of crime intelligence and why?

It is our right to know. There are also huge implications for the recruitment and discipline of cops in the province.  Currently it seems  that if you cover up for your boss, you will be protected when you do something wrong as you have information that could hurt them.  What then happens to accountability and to police performance?

It is imperative that these criminal elements in our police service are rooted out and harshly dealt with.  They must be identified and suspended pending investigation. If this does not happen, we are on the road to ruin.
