1369.  Mr T C R Walters (DA) to ask the Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform:

(1) With regard to the reopening of land claims, does his department have a sufficient budget and resources available for managing an estimated 379 000 claims;

(2)  Has an amount been allocated for the reopening of land claims; if not, why does his department have a business plan that does not align with the budget; if so, what is the amount;

(3) Was a regulatory impact assessment conducted by his department prior to the implementation of the reopening of land claims; if not, why not; if so, what results were obtained? NW1733E

THE MINISTER OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT AND LAND REFORM:

(1) No.

(2) No.

(3) Yes. The Regulatory Impact Assessment assessed the feasibility of the reopening of lodgement of land claims. It estimated that 397 000 new claims are likely to be lodged with the Commission on Restitution of Land Rights and the estimated cost to settle the claims ranges between R129 billion and R179 billion.
