No choice but to proceed with AMG retrenchments - Denel

Company says SAAF's termination of contract taking effect on March 31 2013

Holding statement re follow up discussions with Unions

Denel consulted with the representative unions today regarding the future of employees of the Denel Personnel Solutions (DPS) / Aero Manpower Group (AMG).

Denel informed the representative unions that it will proceed with Section 189A for the 538 DPS employees when the contract ends on 31 March 2013. The SAAF has informed DPS that the existing contract will not be renewed at the termination date. Because DPS has no contract or order cover beyond this date the company has no other option but to proceed with the retrenchment for the entire DPS/AMG workforce.

Discussions took place in terms of Section 189A of the Labour Relations Act, 1995 in an effort to reach consensus on issues that will affect the potential future employment of the affected employees. The parties will focus on finding ways to minimise the negative impact of the retrenchments and Denel has committed to assist with seeking job opportunities for the affected employees both within  the Denel Group and the broader market.

The CEO of Denel Aviation, Mike Kgobe, has in December met with affected employees across the SAAFbases, squadrons and units to explain the situation and the process to be followed.
