No intention to bribe media - Jimmy Manyi

Cabinet spokesperson says bulk buying of adverts will be used to secure discounts

MEETING BETWEEN GCIS AND SANEF HELD ON 15TH JUNE 2011

Following the meeting with Sanef and further to the explanation given by GCIS CEO and Cabinet Spokesperson, Jimmy Manyi at the post Cabinet media briefing of 9th June 2011, GCIS re-iterates the point that the placing of advertisements and editorial independence are not linked.

The concept of bulk buying is part of the GCIS Communications Strategy which was approved by Cabinet and it will be used to elicit discounts and maximum coverage on targeted audiences.

Contrary to media reports, there never was any intention to bribe media to write favourably about government, such insinuations are unfortunate.

Statement issued by Jimmy Manyi, Cabinet Spokesperson, GCIS, June 15 2011
