EFF condemns Covid-19 food parcel corruption by ANC

15 April 2020

The EFF condemns the corruption that is taking place in terms of food distribution to the needy amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. It has come to our attention that members and leaders of the ANC are distributing food parcels wearing party regalia and prioritizing ANC members while excluding community members, members of the EFF and all those who do not hold membership in the ANC. This corruption is happening all across the country, more especially in Tshwane and the Eastern Cape.

This is the highest level of abuse of power and is a depiction of a lack of ethics and humanity.

The ANC is incapable of disabusing itself from petty electioneering politics at a time of human crisis and goes to the extent of denying people aid which is provided by government.

It must be condemned in the harshest terms and all those who use their houses as storage units for food parcels and deliver food only to ANC members and their families must be arrested for their conduct which is far worse than that of a parasite.

We call on government to convert the aid they provide in the form of food parcels into direct cash payments into the accounts of social grants recipients. It is evident that their public representatives who are entrusted with public resources to alleviate the poverty of all during this crisis cannot be trusted with a simple task of being human and giving food to all citizens.

Failure to do this will result in social unrest and conflict in our communities, as such injustice will not go unattended for long. This is a scenario we cannot afford and it will put a strain on law enforcement agencies and the public healthcare sector which should focus all of its energies on combating Covid-19.
