ANC statement on the outcomes of by-elections

26 October 2023

The African National Congress (ANC) welcomes the recent by-election results and expresses its full gratitude to the people of Ward 6 in Thaba Chweu and Ward 9 in Ethekwini for their strong demonstration of commitment to the ANC.

The good showing in this round of by-elections marked by taking a ward from the DA in eThekwini and reclaiming a previously lost ward in Thaba Chweu from the AUM is sign a of the confidence people still have in the ANC. This outcome reaffirms our resilience in delivering services for the people.

Our ongoing review of the 2019 manifesto serves as a crucial platform for accountability, allowing the public to assess our performance against the promises and commitments made in 2019.

By-elections serve as a valuable but complex barometer of political sentiment. They can be challenging to interpret due to their localized nature, making it difficult to generalize national trends. However, they are still a meaningful indicator of public opinion, providing insights into shifts in voter preferences and potential challenges or successes for the ANC.
