DA WCape PL says SG Brett Herron must accept defeat, respect democracy and move on

IEC refutes GOOD’s baseless allegations

25 July 2023

The DA in the Western Cape welcomes the IEC’s rejection of GOOD's claims regarding incorrect voter registration in Pacaltsdorp, where one of the three by-elections took place in George.

Last week, GOOD not only lost their bid to postpone the by-elections, but they also lost the last of only three wards they held in the whole of South Africa.

The DA expects that GOOD and their secretary-general, Brett Herron, accept their defeat, respect democracy, and move on. Casting further aspersion on the George by-elections will only add to the foul taste GOOD has left in the mouths of South Africans who had to witness them making embarrassing allegations to save what they were bound to lose.

Charges of intimidation and breach of the Electoral Code of Conduct against Herron are still being investigated and, other than prematurely reacting to the allegation like Herron has done, we will await the findings and comment thereafter.

We urge supporters of GOOD and other opposition parties who have steadily realised the shortcomings of their elected leaders, to vote for better lives for themselves, their families, their communities, their province, and for their country, and to vote DA.
