DA makes irregular appointment of ANC Councillor in Tshwane – ActionSA

This comes at a time when DA leader, John Steenhuisen, is said to be auditioning for a role in ANC’s cabinet

DA Makes Irregular Appoint of ANC Councillor in City of Tshwane

2 August 2021

ActionSA has noted the recent appointment of Councillor Jabu Mabona to the position of Regional Executive Director (RED) by the DA-led coalition government in the City of Tshwane; an appointment that smacks of alleged irregularity and corruption.

We are advised that the vacancy was first advertised on December 2020. It is alleged that Mabona, who was still serving as an elected representative, did not qualify for the advertised role. The role was then subsequently re-advertised with adjusted requirements to accommodate Mabona. Indeed, it is also alleged that Mabona’s appointment was part of a Faustian bargain between the ANC and the DA to pass the 2021/22 budget – requiring 108 votes.

These allegations come at a time when DA leader, John Steenhuisen, is said to be auditioning for a role in the ANC’s cabinet. It is clear, now more than ever, that the DA has abandoned all pretence of voting out the criminal enterprise that is the ANC and would rather climb into bed with those who would support corruption and enrich themselves at the expense of residents.

Residents of Tshwane deserve better. They deserve a government that will work to root out all forms of corruption and deliver quality services that would restore their dignity. We demand that the City take residents into confidence and explain the circumstances of Mabona’s appointment.

ActionSA is ready to serve the residents of Tshwane with diligence. A vote for ActionSA at the upcoming local Government elections is a vote against corruption, a vote for service delivery and a vote for honest Government.
