Young Communists threaten war against university's vice chancellor

YCLSA: JANSEN HAS BECOME A LAPDOG OF THE AFRIKAANER CLIQUE IN UFS

12 AUGUST 2010

The Young Communist League of South Africa (uFasimba) is concerned by the apartheid tactics which the Vice chancellor has opted to resort to in order to shut down student voices on campus. It's ironic and disappointing that the first black Vice chancellor appointed in the UFS is responsible for the victimisation of the first black SRC president, democratically elected on this lily white campus.

We view this as a form of vengeance for the four white afrikaaner boys which were found guilty in the Reitz four case. Jansen has undermined the roles of political Youth structures within UFS, these structures continue to be the voice of hope and reason for the many students still subjected to draconian rule and victimisation by white management. As many institutions of higher learning move in a completely different direction to embrace transformation and democracy, he continues to advance resistance and possibly the "volkstad agenda" in the UFS.

We view his decisions as complete absurdity and affirmation that the "baas mentality" is still rife in that university. We will not be apologetic about mobilising YCL and other progressive movements including unions on campus to render that institution ungovernable if he does not reverse his futile decisions with immediate effect.

We call on the   Minister of Higher Education to immediately intervene as this is an institution that functions on public funds. If they wish to run it as an Exclusively Afrikaaner institution, then they should simply privatise and funds should be channelled to deserving institutions that are under resourced such as Turfloop, University of Venda. We call for the immediate resignation of Professor Jansen and the entire senior management of UFS.

We as the YCLSA promise Professor Jonathan Jansen who was once "one of our own" war if he continues with his afrikaaner cabal to victimise black students and does not lift these suspensions. It's a promise we fully intend on keeping.
