Minstrels' parade could be held on January 17 - Cape Town

Acting mayor says Cape Cultural and Carnival Committee has agreed to address all of the outstanding legal requirements

Minstrels agree to ensure that annual parade goes ahead

Today, along with City of Cape Town officials, I met with the Cape Cultural and Carnival Committee.

We can confirm that they have applied for the annual minstrel parade to take place on 17 January 2015; however, there are still some outstanding event plans and legislative requirements.

The committee, which is responsible for managing the event, has agreed to address all of the outstanding legal requirements and submit all necessary plans by close of business on Monday 12 January 2015.

We also agreed to meet again on Tuesday 13 January 2015 to ensure that their application and all plans comply with the City's Events Policy and national legislation.

The City called for the meeting today with senior members of the committee in order to resolve any outstanding issues and to ensure that this important historic event takes place.

We agreed to continue supporting them and provide all support as per our partnership agreement with the committee.
