NFP and IFP reject violence

Parties commit to work towards attaining peace in KZN

JOINT MEDIA STATEMENT

1. A meeting was held between delegates from Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), led by Dr BV Mthethwa, Acting National Chairperson of the IFP, and a delegation from the National Freedom Party (NFP), led by Prof NM Khubisa, a member of the National Working Committee of the NFP. The meeting took place in a concilliatory spirit and with a commitment to cooperation.

2. Both parties reject violence and are committed to work towards attaining peace in the Province of KwaZulu Natal and elsewhere in our country.

3. Critical issues affecting both parties were discussed and it was decided to report back to the principals before a more comprehensive joint media statement will be made.

4. Both parties express their desire to continue with bilateral discussions aimed at resolving differences and to work together to ensure an environment of free political activity.
