Our membership is on a clear upward trajectory - NUMSA

Union says its membership stood at 329,692 as of the end of September 2013

NUMSA MEMBERSHIP HAS BEEN GROWING CONSISTENTLY

3 October 2013

During the 26th Anniversary celebrations of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) held at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), Bunting Road campus, on May 17, 2013. The union officially launched its three (3) month long National Recruitment Campaign.

The Campaign has since come to an end at the end of August 2013. Whilst recruitment is an ongoing and daily program in Numsa, annually we dedicate 3 months wherein all nine (9) Numsa Regions embark on a targeted recruitment program to achieve 400 000 members by 2016, as resolved by the Numsa 9th National Congress held in Durban in June 2012.

We are very pleased with the continued growth of the Union of Vuyisile Mini, Jabulile Ndlovu, John Gomomo, Mtutuzeli Tom, Danny Oliphant, Phil Bokaba and countless others in the land of the departed. This growth happens amidst serious ideological and political offensive, unleashed by the Bosses as represented by the Free Market Foundation (FMF) and the Democratic Alliance (DA), to liquidate and weaken the only reliable fighting weapon of workers at their disposal to better and improve their conditions of employment, wages and standard of living.

The National Office Bearers (NOBs') are ecstatic that Numsa remains a Union of choice for South African metalworkers who seek protection from exploitation, discrimination and unhealthy working conditions. The upward trend in Numsa's membership is a clear indication that we are on our way to achieve 400 000 before 2016.
