10 June 2016

The FF Plus welcomes the announcement of Minister Jeff Radebe, minister in the Presidency, that crime statistics will now be released quarterly and annually, Dr. Pieter Groenewald, the FF Plus’s chief spokesperson on Police says.

Dr. Groenewald said the FF Plus has for more than a decade been asking that crime statistics be released quarterly.

“Quarterly released crime statistics will ensure that flash points are identified quicker ensuring more effective crime prevention. The public also has the right to know where these flashpoints are and quarterly released crime statistics will keep the public better informed.

“The minister’s statement that an annual report will make corrections, confirms the criticism of the FF Plus that the credibility of the current crime statistics is suspicious.

“The FF Plus has since 2008 been asking that statistics on farm murders and farm attacks ae also released. This should now be included in this statistics,” Dr. Groenewald said.
