Mr K M Zondi (IFP) asked the Minister of Transport:

Whether he has any plans in place to upgrade the road linking the towns of Kranskop and Nkandla in KwaZulu-Natal; if not, why not; if so, (a) what are the relevant details and (b) what are the time frames for the execution of these plans?                NW579E

REPLY:

The Minister of Transport:

Yes, plans are in place to upgrade the road linking the two towns.

(a) and (b)

P15 is located from Kranskop to Khomo store and is 42.8km in length. The total section of the road that is surfaced is 26.8km. Construction work is presently underway for the balance of 16km and it is anticipated that work will be completed by February 2012.

P50 is located from Khomo store to Nkandla and is 40km in length. The total section of the road that is surfaced 34.6km. Construction work is presently underway for the balance of 5.4km and it is anticipated that work will be completed by December 2011.
