SADTU confident of an ANC victory

Union says ANC is only party that understands plight of the workers and the poor

After weeks of SADTU organizers and the leadership engaging in the local government elections campaign, the Union is more than confident that the ANC will win the elections.

All nine SADTU organizers led by national organizer Jones Galorale, have spent days in Mpumalanga, Western Cape, Eastern Cape and North West provinces campaigning for the ANC in the run-up to the elections.

SADTU believes the ANC is the only party that fully understands the plight of the workers and the poor and is prepared to bring changes and better the lives for all in South Africa.

SADTU resolved in its 7th National Congress held in October last year that it would mobilise members and structures to work for an overwhelming victory for the ANC in the 2011 local government elections.

We urge our members and the South African citizens in general, to exercise their democratic and constitutional right to vote by putting their cross on the ANC.

We also support COSATU's call for the election day (18 May) not be a day for business as usual in the shopping malls, but a non-trading public holiday for people to enjoy their democratic right and duty to vote.

Statement issued by SADTU, May 17 2011
