Cape Town lease deal smacks of corruption - ANC

Jackson Mthembu welcomes Public Protector's decision to investigate

ANC WELCOMES THE PUBLIC PROTECTOR'S CITY OF CAPE TOWN-NASPERS PROPERTY DEAL PROBE

The ANC welcomes the decision by the Public Protector, Adv. Thuli Madonsela, today, 14th March 2012, to officially probe the suspicious City of Cape Town-Naspers's multimillion rand property deal, for allegedly inflating the prices for the City of Cape Town's purchasing of the parking space from Naspers.

It is the firm view of the ANC that public funds must be used prudently to ensure accountability and value for money. In this instance, the ANC is of the view that this deal smacks of corruption and irregularity, and thus will lead to short changing of the public on how tax-payers' money is mishandled by the Democratic Alliance.

We call on the Public Protector to ascertain that the probe is thoroughly conducted to unravel details of this property deal.

Statement issued by Jackson Mthembu, ANC National Spokesperson, March 14 2012
