Independent Police Investigative Directorate secures conviction for Mido Macia murder case

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has secured conviction for eight policemen accused of killing Mozambican taxi driver Mido Macia at North Gauteng High Court.

The police officers were charged for murdering Macia on Tuesday, February 26, 2013,at Daveyton Street .

Accused number nine (09), one of the policemen initially accused of murdering Macia, Constable Matome Walter Ramatlou, 37, has been acquitted because there was no evidence against him. Ramatlou was the only one of the accused who was not dismissed after a disciplinary hearing, and had already resumed his duties as a police officer last year. The remaining accused - Meshack Malele, 46, Thamsamqa Mgema, 35, Percy Jonathan Mnisi, 26, Bongamusa Mdluli, 25, Sipho Sydwell Ngobeni, 30, Lungisa Gwababa, 31, Bongani Kolisi, 27 and Linda Sololo, 56 - all pleaded not guilty and contradicted themselves as the Judge find out that the Mozambican was unlawful arrested.

The case has been postponed to the 22 September 2015, for sentencing and all the accused will remain in custody.
