ANC KZN commends Zanele KaMagwaza-Msibi's appointment

Party says Jacob Zuma always puts interests of the country first

ANC KZN COMMENDS THE APPOINTMENT OF MAGWAZA-MSIBI TO THE EXECUTIVE

5 June 2014

The African National Congress in KwaZulu-Natal welcomes the appointment of Ms Zanele KaMagwaza-Msibi, the leader of the National Freedom Party as the Deputy Minister of Science and Technology.

The appointment shows that President Jacob Zuma, who is also the President of the African National Congress, always puts the interests of the country first and not narrow party interests when constituting the national executive. We strongly believe that the experience Magwaza-Msibi gained in the political field in the past years, will contribute immensely to ensuring that the department delivers effectively and efficiently.

We would like to caution those who will look at this appointment with jaundiced eyes and advance wrong interpretations to suite their own political agendas. It is not the first time that the ANC government appoints people who are not from the ANC ranks.

Inkatha Freedom Party leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi was appointed Home Affairs Minister in 1994, Ben Skhosana, another senior IFP leader was also the minister of Correctional Services and Mosibudi Mangena of the Azanian People's Organisation was the Minister of Science and Technology. The list goes on.

This shows that the ANC has always risen above narrow and petty political issues. We commend President Zuma for appointment and we wish KaMagwaza-Msibi well as she executes her duties.
