Child rapists should be locked up forever - ANCWL

League says new struggle is to overcome violence and brutality of our past

ANCWL - SHE IS JUST TWO YEARS OLD...

She is just two years old, she is learning how to say her name, and beginning to comprehend the world around her. But her young fragile innocent body was brutally violated when she was raped by a 30-year-old man, her neighbour. Actually the thing that could commit such a vile act, by violating an innocent toddler in such a horrific manner does not deserve to go by the title man. He can barely be described as some sub-human creature (see SAPS statement).

Limpopo police have arrested a 30-year-old Tzaneen male for this crime in the Relela village, Modjadji. This male is out on bail for raping a grandmother, as well as another middle aged woman. This is the exact reason why the ANCWL consistently protest outside court and demand that suspected rapists be denied bail.

The time for action is now! Enough is enough! We cannot as a society continue to let our women and children be victims. As the ANCWL we call for harsher punishments for rapists and a convicted child rapist should never be allowed to re-enter society. This type of creature should be denied the right to freedom for the rest of their days on this earth.

As a country we have to ask ourselves some tough questions, why did we fight so hard for this freedom we enjoy today? To become a society of rapists? Because this is the reputation we are giving our beautiful country. This is part of our new struggle, to overcome the violence and brutality of our past and create the country envisioned in our constitution. A truly non-sexist, non-racist, peaceful society, where a man will treasure, protect and respect a woman as his equal.

The ANC Women's League undertake to meet with the justice department to make cases involving rape one of the highest priorities for the NPA and all judicial officails, including Magistrates and Judges. It must be clear that any case involving rape will not receive bail. As the Women's League we will take a special interest in this particular case of an alleged serial rapist to ensure that it receives the highest priority. We demand justice tor this innocent two-year-old girl, and all who fall victim to disgusting rapists.

Rape must stop! The time is now!
