Fox could teach Stellenbosch rector a lesson - AfriForum Youth

Prof Wim de Villiers caught in the same snare twice as he retracts his statement on the language of instruction at US

A fox is not caught twice in the same snare, but Stellenbosch Rector is

AfriForum Youth has learned that the University of Stellenbosch (US) has retracted their Rector, Prof Wim de Villiers’ statement about the language of instruction at the University. This follows unremitting pressure by AfriForum Youth’s Maties branch, Maties Alumni and other students on the campus.

“Prof. de Villiers clearly does not know the expression, that a fox is not caught twice in the same snare. This is once again a decision taken by him which is retracted, as he does not follow the correct channels. If he wanted to exclude the University Board from this decision, which decisions are being taken by him without their consent?” asks Morné Mostert, National Representative for AfriForum Youth.

“This is a great victory for us and a step in the right direction on the side of the University, but we should still be cautious, as we now know what Prof. De Villiers’ outlook is regarding Afrikaans at Maties. He’s creating an unnecessary anti Afrikaans climate on the campus, which is not the reality experienced by students,” says Bernard Pieters, Spokesperson for AfriForum Youth Maties.
