Re: Complaint about deployments of the DA in the Western Cape Provincial Government

Dear Ms. Madonsela

Please receive correspondence from our offices in relation to the concern we have of the appointment of an MEC in the Provincial Government.

We raise the request for an investigation into the appointment of the MEC Donald Grant to the head of Education in April 2009. When he was appointed he was both surprised on his appointment and at the time said he knew nothing about education and would have to go and read up, something to the effect of him having to do homework.

We have given him an opportunity to prove himself, but under his tenure the gap between educational resources in rich and poor schools has increased, with no clear plan emerging to address the crisis that schools and the Education system in the Western Cape are in.

This is a clear indication of Cadre appointments gone wrong, where people are appointed for political favours, and have no experience in the area and demonstrate an astonishing level of incompetence after 2 years in the position, in addressing the key challenges in Education. There are also serious questions being raised about the role that Mr Grant played in the Crayfish Industry in blocking Transformation, as well as his continued association with Crayfish Industry.

This blatant incompetent Cadre deployment by the DA under the leadership of Ms Zille is risking the future of our children who are the learners, who bear the brunt of this mismanagement of Education in the Western Cape. We ask that your good offices investigate the corrupt practice and order the Provincial Government to appoint a fit and competent person to the position, so that the mismanagement of Education can be reversed.
